New South Cotswolds Monthly Meeting – update from Jon

Hi Everyone, to those who I met a few weeks ago at the Horse and Groom thank you for coming out it was good to see so many of you all be it briefly.

Having spoken to some members and looked at how you are all spread out across the Cotswolds and beyond I have decided to trial an additional meeting in the South Cotswolds to complement the existing meeting near Stow-on- the-Wold and hopefully make it accessible to some of you in the south that might find it difficult to make it up to Stow.

The new meeting will be on the last Thursday of the month at the Highwayman Inn, Beech Pike, Elkstone, Nr Cirencester, GL53 9PH. We have 3 months of dates booked with the landlord to see how the meeting develops so hopefully we get a good turn out.

The first meeting will be the 27th of July from 7pm, If you can make it I hope to see as many of you there as possible. The venue has a big car park so plenty of opportunities for group photos it would be great to get a real mix of Alfa’s from different generations.

Food and drink is also available from the bar.

If any of you have any queries as always please let me know and I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Many thanks,

Jon

Message from Jon Pestell our new section secretary
Meet Jon at our next section meeting on the 20th June

Hi Everyone,

Firstly, let me introduce myself, I’m Jon your new AROC Cotswold secretary, and very excited to be getting involved to support the club and the Cotswold Section. A little bit about me, I’ve loved cars all my life, not just cars but lots of  vehicles, transport and infrastructure. when I was 19 I bought my first sports car which happened to be a silver Phase 2 916 GTV. I loved that car and when the cam belt failed and turned the engine to mush I was totally devastated…so naturally I used all my savings to buy another one! This time another earlier Red Phase 2 with a factory sunroof (which I believe is quite rare?) and rather rough around the edges.

Although she was scruffy she had very low millage (less than 50k) and ran very reliably for over 10 years as my daily driver, before entering semi retirement as my weekend fun car. I still love my red GTV and still have it although she is now looking very run down and I’m starting to save for a full restoration.

Although it started with heart break and a broken GTV it was to late, I was already hooked on Alfas and now 17 years later I’ve had 6 of them! as well as my GTV I now have a Giulia Veloce (also red) which is my current daily driver and family car. it’s a really fantastic car, handles brilliantly with plenty of power while but also comfortable and spacious making great for my long commute!

I would be delighted to hear from any members who would like to have input in the section and any ideas for events or venues. Unfortunately Cotswold Alfa Day has been cancelled this year due to the changes within the section however I’d really like to get an interim event in the calendar for late summer or early autumn.

I will also be at the Cotswold Section meeting on the 20th of June at The Horse and Groom InnUpper Oddington, Moreton in Marsh GL56 0XH. It would be great to see as many of you as possible if you can make it, I look forward to meeting you then.

Many thanks,

Jon Pestell

AROC-UK Cotswolds Section Secretary

CANCELLED – COTSWOLD ALFA DAY 2023

It is with regret that we have to announce that Cotswold Alfa Day has been cancelled and will not be taking place in 2023.

This was not an easy decision to make, but unfortunately without a Section Secretary and a lack of committee members or other volunteers, it became clear that we would not be able to run the event this year

We hope that if a new Section Secretary and committee members are found, Cotswold Alfa Day will return in 2024.

Section Committee Vacant Positions

Following our AGM in February we have vacant positions for Section Secretary, Chairman and for general committee members. If you are interested in one of these roles please please email contact@aroccotswolds.co.uk or speak to Dave or Chris at a monthly meeting.

Without a section secretary the activities of the section are severely limited. Monthly meetings will continue as scheduled on the third Tuesday of the month at the Coach & Horses. We will update the position regarding Cotswold Alfa Day once this is confirmed.

We would like to the thank Alex for his his hard work and support as Section Secretary and to Neale for his work on the committee.

Dave Parker (Treasurer) and Chris Martin (Committee member and website admin)

Update from Alex re Section Secretary following AGM

Hi Everyone,

To let you all know that as from the Section AGM that was held on Tuesday 21st February I am no longer secretary of the section. Also Neale Smith stood down as committee member,

Unfortunately  we received no nominees for either posts but both Chris Martin and Dave Parker have stayed on as Website Co-Ord and Treasurer respectively.

This does not mean that we cannot meet up once a month and at events and diary dates will still be published on the website. However AROC UK will have no official POC until the secretaries posistion is filled. So if you fancy taking on either role I will do all I can to support and guide you.

Thank you all so much for your friendship and support over the years.

Kindest regards, Alex
