About us

We are an active section with an ever increasing membership. All Alfa owners and prospective members are welcome to join in any of our meetings or events and we are a fairly informal bunch so why not come along and meet us?

We would normally meet at the Fox Inn, Broadwell, Near Stow on the Wold, Glos, GL56 0UF. 7:00pm onwards – 3rd Tuesday of the month. Click here for a Google Map.

Due to the current Covid pandemic our monthly meetings have moved to online Zoom meetings, on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. If you would like to join us and are not our mailing list, please contact us to have your email address added to the list.

David Slorach

It is with great sadness that I have to report that our friend, section member and fellow “Alfisti” David Slorach passed away peacefully at home on Monday the 25thof January 2021.

Although on the surface David was a quiet and reserved person his love for all things Alfa Romeo and knowledge of the brand was vast. His input, foresight and ideas for the section were generous, thoughtful, and always given with cheer and a smile.

I got to know him better over the last few years when we went on scouting trips to find suitable venues for Cotswold Alfa Day, Southern Alfa Day and he was part of the original team for the phenomenally successful National Alfa Day at Bicester Heritage in 2019.

As many of you know David was also secretary for our neighbours, the Thames Valley Section and did much for the club in this role. Last years Southern Alfa Day, one of the few events nationally, was very much down to him and a great success it was to.

It was at the 2019 NAD that I truly saw the fun and relaxed David, it was a crazy busy day for all the volunteers and marshals and by early afternoon we were all exhausted. He must have noticed that I was flagging, he came over to me with a beaming smile and said, “Hey Alex, marshals have more fun!”. Only a few words but ones I will always remember and cherish.

Our sincere condolences to Margaret and the family. Rest in peace David.

The Secretary’s Sribbles

Hello everyone and I trust you are all keeping safe, well, and not going to “stir crazy”.

As I alluded the other month it certainly looks like we will be in “lockdown” to the spring/early summer and without stating the obvious we will not have any meets or gatherings.

February is traditionally the time for our AGM however with the current situation this will have to be postponed, it is a difficult thing to arrange on Zoom!  So, if it is ok with you all the present committee will stay on until we can procced further.

Speaking of which we are still hoping that outdoor events will be allowed, albeit in smaller controlled numbers. CAD is still ready to go ahead this year and I will contact Batsford as soon as it seems sensible to do so, lets hope it’s a yes.

Prescott Hill Climb is promoting an all-Italian car day for Sunday 30thof May. Run along the lines of last years drive your car up the hill event. However, I have just checked and the price, which includes four runs up the hill is £125! Spectator tickets are not yet priced/available, but I will let you know when they are.

About keeping our “Bella’s” running and in shape I wonder how many are used for “essential shopping”, I know mine is. Also, many of us will be insured with a limited mileage policy. It may be worth checking but a two-minute phone call saved me £50 when I said I wasn’t going anywhere!

Well, that’s about it for now from me. I you have anything Alfa related that might be of interest to the members, technical/odd/funny, you get the picture. Please let me know and we will put it on the website and FB page.

Stay safe all, Alex.
