The Secretary’s Scribbles – April 2021
“On the Horizon”
Hello everyone and I trust you are all well and most of you have been “en-jabed” by now.
With we hope the lifting of the covid restriction we are planning some events to go to. These will include Prescott Italian day at the end of March, the Shelsley Walsh “Classic Nostalgia” weekend in mid-July and the Tewkesbury Classic Festival at the end of August. We are also hoping to plane a visit to Retro Marques and the Revive detailing studio.
The big one for the section is of course CAD. This will take place on Sunday the 8thof August, a bit later than usual but we felt it would give us time for the planning and to see how the covid situation goes. As things are a touch unpredictable, we will take bookings as from this month. We will not be taking any monies until July when we can be sure the event can go ahead, but please do let us now before then if you want to attend. We will take your details and only take funds when we are 100% sure we can run the event. See the Cotswold Alfa Day 2021 page for further details and booking form.
Attached to this message will be the details of how to book for the events mentioned. For the Italian car day at Prescott in May there will be a spectator price soon but there will not be an Alfa parking area. For Shelsley in July I have reserved Alfa parking for the weekend, and we hope to be joined by a couple of other sections. If you book this, please follow the Car Club directions on their website.
For Tewkesbury there will not be dedicated parking, but we can meet up and convoy in to make sure we park together.
It has not been easy to organise things but let’s all hope we can enjoy a good, albeit later than usual, summer season with our “Bella’s”.
Please check the Diary page for details of current events, including those mentioned in Alex’s ‘scribbles’ above.
It is with great sadness that I have to report that our friend, section member and fellow “Alfisti” David Slorach passed away peacefully at home on Monday the 25thof January 2021.
Although on the surface David was a quiet and reserved person his love for all things Alfa Romeo and knowledge of the brand was vast. His input, foresight and ideas for the section were generous, thoughtful, and always given with cheer and a smile.
I got to know him better over the last few years when we went on scouting trips to find suitable venues for Cotswold Alfa Day, Southern Alfa Day and he was part of the original team for the phenomenally successful National Alfa Day at Bicester Heritage in 2019.
As many of you know David was also secretary for our neighbours, the Thames Valley Section and did much for the club in this role. Last years Southern Alfa Day, one of the few events nationally, was very much down to him and a great success it was to.
It was at the 2019 NAD that I truly saw the fun and relaxed David, it was a crazy busy day for all the volunteers and marshals and by early afternoon we were all exhausted. He must have noticed that I was flagging, he came over to me with a beaming smile and said, “Hey Alex, marshals have more fun!”. Only a few words but ones I will always remember and cherish.
Our sincere condolences to Margaret and the family. Rest in peace David.
